"Uptown Chic"-Found alphabet project for ART235 Graphic Design.
Everyday objects and pieces of our surroundings can suggest letter forms. Finding and showcasing them in a pleasing, easy to understand format is a fun and exciting challenge!
While architectural alphabets are not new, mine is unique in its colors, and original creative architecture. Ogden, Utah is home to a historic Union Pacific train station, numerous turn-of-the-20th-century Victorian style homes, classical hotelsĀ and churches. All of these buildings are within a 3-mile radius. The title "Uptown Chic" is meant to reflect this beautiful, once trendy style.
Shooting from various angles, vantage points, and distances, I found letters of the alphabet in all sorts of details. From the arches of church doors, to the swirly terminal on a wood carving, a multi-colored banister post, and many otherĀ ornate embellishments, letter forms can be anything, if you look just right. With the help of Photoshop, those letter-y details can be emphasized so they read as letters to the viewer, creating an intriguing new way to spell out words for display.
