This webpage was created for Comm310 Creating Online Media. Most of the semester was dedicated to building the site and learning to use Photoshop layers to design the pages in one template.

At a family funeral, my sister discussed various methods for sharing our grandfather's home movies with the rest of the family. We decided that a website would be a good way to do that. That was the inspiration for my idea to create a family archive website, although Grandpa's movies haven't made it here, yet. The stories and photos are of my real ancestors. You can view the actual site at www.familystack.org.
There are a zillion family history sites on the web, and most of them seem dusty and boring. I wanted to create a site that would feel exciting and interesting, but a little retro at the same time. The color scheme is meant to evoke a mid-20th century modern feel. White borders on the photos give the images a sense of realism, since most of them actually had them.
Getting a high resolution photo off the web can be tricky. Most of these photos are available for download from familysearch.org, but at only 72 dpi. If you wanted to print and frame one, you would want better resolution than that. My goal is to have a hi-res version of every photo available for download. To keep the page weight from getting too heavy, they are store in the cloud instead of directly on the site.
The website project includes a styleguide accessible through a link at the bottom of the site.
